Curriculum Development in
the Ministry of Education & Higher Education

As a requisite step before applying the new Palestinian vocational curricula in its vocational schools, the MEHE has adopted the modular system and already started the process for developing labor market demand- driven curricula for the 11th and 12th grades at vocational schools. One of the most significant activities being undertaken by the MEHE is the development of these new TVET curricula which meet maximum flexibility and relevancy to labor market needs. The Ministry has already taken responsibility for implementing this significant and basic task.

Four "National Teams on Developing the Palestinian Vocational Curricula" were formed from experts and specialists from: local universities; technical colleges; vocational schools; private sector and NGOs, each for one of the four streams (agricultural, commercial, hotel, industrial, indicating also that a new stream is being worked on that is 'House Economy').
Industrial curriculum team that is composed of 54 members will develop curricula for 15 industrial specializations in addition to 2 relevant ones (Beautification and Clothes Manufacturing). Agricultural curriculum team with 11 members will develop curricula for 2 agricultural specializations (Plant Production and Animal Production). Commercial curriculum team with 9 members will develop a curriculum for one specialization (but of 2 themes: Administration and Accounting). So far, the teams have 100% achieved the headlines of these specializations. Accordingly, table of contents, overall goal, specific objectives, activities and expected outputs were drawn for each module in each specialization.
As of they pass an evaluation process of 3 cycles (linguistic, scientific and organization) that is already undertaken and adoption of these headlines, other teams for authoring will be formed and writing of the modules full text will consequently be commenced.
