UNRWA activities in Counselling and Guidence

PLACEMENT& CAREER GUIDANCE (PCG)

The functions of PCGO are to assist the graduates of the UNRWA Vocational and Teacher Training Centres in securing suitable jobs in the local labour market and the neighboring Arab Countries and to provide Career Guidance to the students in the UNRWA preparatory schools as well as the government secondary schools.

These functions are handled by PCG Office at UNRWA HQs Amman, which is headed by a PCG Officer and assisted by PCG Assistant in addition to 4 PCG Assistants in each of the other 4 Fields, i.e SAR, Lebanon, West Bank and Gaza.

As for the second function, Career Guidance Quality Wheel Committees were set up in the 5 Fields to plan, implement and follow-up related activities towards the pupils in the preparatory and secondary cycles in order to acquaint them with the vocational and technical courses available at the training centres, their requirements, employability prospects etc. as this will enable them to select the vocations they are interested in.

Student counselors at VTCs. in coordination with PCG Assistants, furthermore help trainees to cope with the new training environment and to abide by rules and regulations at the VT centres, they also assist trainees in solving academic and social problems which they are facing during their training years.

Moreover, PCG Office, in coordination and cooperatioin with PCG Assistant, VTCs in the 5 fields, and VTE specialists at HQ (Amman) conducts necessary studies and market surveys on the needs of the labour market and follow-up studies on the VTCs graduates. The findings and outcomes are used for revising VT courses syllabi as well as for introducing highly employable new VT courses or deleting ones with low employability at the training centres.
