The YMCA:

The YMCA has developed two programs that worked & still working on counseling & guidance as follows:

  1. Vocational Counseling: Through the YMCA-Women’s Training Program (WTP) started in 1993 , it provides the counseling services for school girls at their final stages of schooling as well as provide a different tests including ability practical & theoretical tests through the Valper unit. This test is available at pre-set times in their offices in Ramallah.
  2. Vocational Guidance: Through their offices spread all over the country the YMCA-Extension Service Unit (ESU), provides employment, training & assistance in self-employment for VTET graduates. Lists are taken from schools & centers before their graduation.

Other initiatives:
  • In house Trainees counseling ( when entering for better decide on their vocation) & trainees guidance (before graduation to help them in finding employment/ self-employment) is done in most of the NGO-VET centers & schools, but needs more formalization.
  • The YWCA-VTC does replacement of their graduates for 1 months in different institutes, that helps towards their employment. The YMCA-VTC, the LWF-VTC & the JISS does also market placement for their trainees before graduation.
  • LWF-VTC does awareness campaigns among at least 10 different academic schools ( boys & girls at 10th grades) annually as part of it’s campaign for enrollment in the VTC.
