RAMALLAH MEN’S TRAINING CENTER (RMTC)
Ramallah Men’s Training Center is located in the West
Bank on a site of 59000m2 in Ramallah town, 16 KM north
of Jerusalem. The center was established in 1960 as a
two-year teacher training institution. The Technical and
Vocational Education programme was introduced to the center
in 1985 at a semi-professional level. The centre has further
more an Educational Science Faculty, a four-year degree
programme, which replaced the former two-year teacher
training programme. 926 Palestinians have graduated to
date from the VTE section of the center. The center provides
boarding places for trainees from remote areas; currently
114 students utilize these facilities. Female trainees
have been given the opportunity to enroll to the VT programme
as of the 1998/99 training year, their current number
stands at 41.
RMTC is characterized by its fully equipped halls and
spacious labs. It is worth mentioning that most, if not
all, the teaching aids are available. Moreover, the center’s
library has around 20,000 references (books, periodicals,
encyclopedias ..etc.) in both Arabic and English languages.
The library managed to attract the attention of local
staff and trainees, together with external teachers, students
and professionals.
The following table shows, that the centre provides seven
semi-professional (Post Secondary) technical courses with
286 training places.
During the year 2002/2003, RMTC conducted two short term
courses for the local community in the field of ICDL and
SPSS.

Ramallah women’s TC is located in the West Bank
on a site of approximately 80,000 sqm in Tireh village
near the town of Ramallah, about 14 km northwest of Jerusalem.
It was the first and the only training centre for girls
and represented a significant pioneering move in UNRWA’s
area of operations. It was opened in 1962 with 135 vocational
trainees in 4 courses and provided residential accommodation
for all trainees in teacher training and vocational training.
At present the centre provides 16 TVET courses in 28 class
sections with 580 training places; 353 students utilize
the boarding facilities. The following table shows, that
2 courses are at trade level, while the remaining ones
are at semi-professional (post-secondary) level. The centre
has furthermore an Education Science Faculty (ESF), which
offers a 4-year university level teacher-training programme,
leading to a first university degree in education.
Due to the political crisis the Government Comprehensive
Examination has been postponed by the Ministry of Higher
Education until further notice. 10112 Palestinian girls
have graduated from the centre to date from TVET Programme
and ESF.
One of the future plans at RWTC is to establish during
2002 – 2003, subject to securing the necessary funds,
new technical courses as Jewelry Making as well as Interior
Design and TV and Radio production.
During the year 2002/2003, RWTC conducted one short term
